Typing in Armenian

Once you have installed the fonts, you may also type in Armenian.

But you will need a small program to shift easily (with an ALT+SHIFT stroke) between Armenian and Latin keyboards. You can make this in the same document and even the same line you are typing, because the fonts you have downloaded are composed by a double set of characters: Armenian and Latin. With ALT+SHIFT the system alternatively replaces the Latin set with the Armenian letters or the opposite.

Select your system clicking the upper frame. Because of its stability and ease of use, KDWin 1.01 (created by Rafik Marutyan) is my choice for Operating Systems ranging from Windows 3.x to Windows Me. For Windows XP (and also Me, 98 and 95) you can use KDWin 3.0.

The major advantage of KDWin is that you can configure the keyboard the way you like it if it is too hard to get used to the provided "Armenian Phonetic" and "Armenian Standard" keyboards. I have customized my preferred distribution of keys under "hagop1", which is based on the Olympia typewriter's Armenian keyboard (adopted also by Agfa's Compugraphic during the 1980's). My customized keyboard is not included in the Kdwin95 and NLS packages.

Windows XP and 2000 users also have the option to download the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator which is customizable. Please visit Microsoft's Website at http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/msklc.mspx.
